Pity they didn't uprate the head to 3 or 4 valves per cylinder

I read somewhere the other day that Triumph were looking at a 32 valve version of the engine - I don't know if it ever got of the drawing board though.

    Dave
On 'Canley Classics' blog theyrecount talesabout the 'experimental shop' fabricating a left hand sprint head for use on a 32valve Stag.

My opinion is, thank god they didn't proceed! they didn't manage to get 16v working reliably so no hope with 32v. Anyone on here who would like to see a 32v Stag clearly has the same masochistic tendencies as Max Mosley (allegedly!)

Isn't a 32v Stagdue tothe aggregrate of the total number of valves (4)per cylinder (8) ie. each head having 16v each ?

I'm guessing that by the time the Dolomite Sprint was launched,BL had already pulled out of the USA,therefore their anticipated sales of Stags were never going to be realised and therefore the additional reworking would not be cost effective.

Anyway, had BL had any money and inclination this would surely have been put to better usesorting out the standard heads and general reliability to reduce warranty claims on their flagship model ?

BTW : It's always amazed me that the 16v TR7 never went into production as this was surely a very straightforward application of this technology. But I guess this then clashed with the belated launch of the TR8 to be worthwhile.

But to reiterate, definately a 'double-thumbs up' to SOCTFL for embarking on such an ambitious and worthwhile project. As someone who's having continued problems with heads and realising thatdecent secondhand ones are rather hard to come by

However with 2 failed rebuilds in just 3 years sadly I'm not sure I can afford the cost however tempting - with hindsight this SOCTFL route may have been the most cost effective though !

Reading Pauls message it does show that the Triumph Stag is indeed a Cruel Mistress, (Very in vogue these days, cruel mistresses)

Does this explainthe fact that some cars have plenty of owners and some remarkably few, the few are probably stubborn and bloody minded and loaded?.

Also that there are a great many cars with low mileages, does that mean they were off road awaiting more money to be spent on repairs? :?

Could it be that these owners have given everything and then thrown in the towell?

        Discussssssssssssssssssssssss
