None only a slight deposit associated with clutch/band wear. God knows where all that crap has come from looks like the PO has been washing his socks in there. Still it is what it is, now it depends how involved you want to get. Drop Russ a PM and see if I am right about dropping the valve block to do the cross shaft seals., if I am then you can strip the valve block and give it a through wash out, there is an exploded diagram in the w/shop Manuel. If you are not confident to do this I would give a good slosh in a bowl with clean petrol. Russ may moan about this ( only because he is a grumpy old git) wash out the filter in the same way. change your seals and reassemble keeping everything clean. If you had no problem before there's no reason to have one now. Graham I find a small prayer at bedtime works as well

I shall say a small prayer, think Russ told me I should be able to flick out the seals if I, am careful, I'm Shaw he will let me know if I'm wrong, now going to clean the filter out with petrol and refit.

may add so more pictures later as may be of help to someone else?

Got my cross shaft seals out the selector side was the easiest, the near side had been Bodged by a PO, used a socket to push offside in but nearside will make a little pushing tool as cant fit a socket in.

I would say that the white silicone bits are where the PO has used a silicone sealant - precisely why I said in my earlier post not to use sealant. However there are sealants and there are sealants - i suspect that stuff like Wellseal povided that it is only a thin smear that won't squeeze out of the sides is fine - an RTV silicon gasket goo unless used carefully will not. As always just my opinion

Hi Graham, busy to-day made a cross shaft fitting tool to make sure the bushes are pushed right home, as on the nearside you can't get a socket on top of seal as close to the tran's tunnel,

Sort of yellowish but missing the Stag motif.

                      You're slipping

You can easily adjust the bands while you have the sump off.Easy to do. From memory just watch the torque settings .One is Lbs per inch rather than per foot. Mike
