Well finally managed to the sender out , didn't need to take the housing off , as I just undid the 27mm fitting attached to the housing into which the sender sits , once out I could see it hadn't been seated level & so I think the steel retaining fitting had when I tightened it down very slightly deformed the brass of the sender such that it was catching on the threads , hence no amount of pulling with the long nose pliers would had made any difference , ended up once out having to user a hammer to knock it through& out. The collateral damage was the ended up broken , so I'm now either going to need to get if refurbed with a new capillary or replaced.... Have blanked off the sender in the short term , High risk ? - stag with no working temp gauge !!!.
What a saga , and still not finished - now the proud owner of a 27mm spanner - wonder if 'll ever use that again ?
