    I was told this by Mick Ward, they had a lot of complaints of whining from new diffs as the cw&p weren't right for the Stag, hence having their own made.

      If a "new" diff is a rebuilt one using a preused CWP then it may whine as meshing may be different from its original wear pattern. Hence the need for a new CWP without any previous wear.

        I may be wrong, but I thought the commonly available CWP sets were just not very well made hence the whine even with new ones.

            Yes, if you check the tooth pattern with a bit of 'engineers blue' you'll soon see if it is OK.
            The diff only starts working when one wheel is turning faster than the other, therefore when travelling in a straight line, and the rear wheels are about the same diameter (one new tyre and one used can upset it!) the diff isn't working.
            Hope I'm not telling Granny to suck eggs, but just a reminder!
