As Darryll and Julian have said, can you find a local autobody paint shop who can scan the colour and make up some paint for you, depending on whether you want to use cans or a spray gun if you plan to paint the panels yourself. Ours sells to the public and also supplies paint for the trade, so they have a scan booth. That's what i intend to do for some touch-up paint, because I have no clue what colour my car is, well, yes, i know it's red ....(Sienna on commission plate).

Collision repair guys also have the technology; my son offered to take the Stag to where he works in the local Ford dealer autobody shop and get the paint guys to make up some paint for me........... hey .... wait a minute....19 years old...drive my Stag....who is he kidding????

It shouldn't be too difficult to do,

Problem is, the(recommended) body shop is very 'low cost, high quality; orientated HOWEVER they don't have colour matching stuff for some reason (expense?)

Considering its not sapphire blue I looked at this page:

Royal blue looks very close but mine's a 1974 - and according to the matrix the paint does not match '74

Hi Stimpy. If you go to a good auto paint supplier they have a gadget that can analyse your paint colour, and mix it up to match. But will only mix it in 2 pack or water base coat, they can't mix it in cellulose using that gadget, they would have to do that by eye.

This is what Stimpy said earlier:

Yup - no clues. Funilly enough I have pictures of the last spray but no notes.
I would say that it's royal blue especially the fact it so close to the colour of my car - except it wasn't used in 1974. Bah.

                    I was wondering.
If I went for a whole new respray (full body) - if I went for a 'close enough' blue then the interior bits of the body (inside door etc) wouldn't they?

I only ask because I was wondering if I could go for another colour?

The quote for the 'tidy up' is £900. Somewhat less than £2500 according to my understanding of maths!

I've taken out a loan to focus on getting the Stag into a very nice car! It's good for the moment but a few scratches, 2 dents and some questionable painting in certain places (there are dark blue bits on the rear left (making it feel like it *was* a non-standard colour).

So I have 3 choices really

                    1) Risk it with the 'smarten up' @ 900
                    2) Go for a new blue - close to the colour on the car (a full spray) @ 2500
                    3) Go for a different colour full respray @ ???

I could not believe what I saw on Saturday.
I was washing and polishing and waxing etc and what did I come across?

The commission plate on the B-post of the passenger side. Seems like one of the only things they put back on WAS that plate.

So meet Mr Idiot here.... <whistles>

I've just received the latest Practical Classics magazine and on the back cover the whole page is brown with the caption "This is not brown. This is British Leyland Maple Brown BLVC 83"
I compared it with the paint on my Stag which is original and I think PC should have described their back cover as Russett Brown.
Saw this thread and just had to get it off my chest.

Funny you should mention that Steve - I thought exactly the same thing - 'great minds .......' etc

The only thing is that I didn't have a car to check it against like you do

                          Cheers
