    Hi Philip,

I'd like to echo the previous thanks for monitoring the situation and acting promptly to secure SOCTFL assets. Let's hope that the suppliers have sufficient stocks to see us through this period.

The tooling is one thing but the loss of expertise in making and final fetling is a terrible loss . Well done to those who saved what could be saved .

Think a number of clubs still use Radford Panels (Leamington Spa).

Would it be sacrilege to use British Motor Heritage ? They refer to having their own factory

They currently seem to sell hardly anything for a Stag

          Cheers

I think the use of the word "cars" is a bit OTT Andrew

I have bought an MGB roadster bodyshell from BMH, and I was impressed with how it had been put together. The panel finish and fit was good, and the standard of welding was good and neat [spot welded as original construction]

Initially they had some problems with the MGB GT because the windscreen alignement dimensions was slightly off.

I believe they got it a bit wrong with the Triumph TR6 bodyshell, where if I remember correctly the rear deck on the bodyshell was made about half inch or so too high.
Obviously the MGB is a higher volume car, and almost all of the original tooling survived, in varying condition of repair.

                  Some good/interesting comments there guys

Sadly, as I mentioned, the Stag seems sorely overlooked - 4 panels and ONE BOLT is all they offer

If they did a Stag shell for the same £8-10 k as the MGB I'd be very tempted (if I had the money )

                  Cheers

Revington TR supplies the TR6 bodyshell in primer for a touch over £31,000 ! This may be more of an indication of the likely cost of a new Stag shell if sufficient tooling was available. I believe people were pricing up bodyshell production in China for the MK1 Escort, to try and keep production costs down.
You can even get the Jaguar E type full bodyshell in aluminium if you have deep pockets...

Does make you think how relatively cheap a decent Stag can still be bought for if you know what to look for.

                    Dave.

A company that buys the complete shells for their MGB recreation spend about 300 hours on each bringing it up to standard.

Yeah, I was only joking - if they were available then, whatever they cost, I couldn't afford it. Even if I could, I'd then have to sell it to pay for the divorce

                        Cheers

Well they (Revington's at Middlezoy) recently charged me £55 / hr (+VAT) of course.

I think it is because they bought up BL's tooling stock and those were the only remaining original body tools for the Stag. The rest are pattern parts.

                              Regards

That's right Dave, very little of the original Stag tooling was saved.
