Good spot Richard, like you I thought he was already a Sir.
Only last year my brother and me had the priviledge of being with John when he did a celebration run through Edenbridge High Street of all his Championship steeds.... the priceless F1 Ferrari and two of his Championship bikes. At one point, when the Ferrari was warming up, a mechanic dropped "something metallic" into the engine area, but couldn't find anything amiss, John was extremely worried about doing the run in case of a problem - I suggested that they use their air compressor to blow as much around the engine as possible and see if anything came out. They did this and John seemed content with the "solution" and promptly doned his helmet, lit up the tyres and blasted down the High St....an amazing, very approachable icon of motorsport.

Spoke at some length with him at the Goodwood FoS a few years back, an amazing man, and why he has not yet been honoured is beyond me.

Com'on Lads what's going on here I though we were a club of guys who loved their machines including some of us that loved 2 wheels as well as 4 we are talking about a man here who could make both sing he also had the ability to win races on tyres that were not much wider than elastic bands and he also had a clutch and a gear leaver then take the time to check out the speeds they were doing. If there is anyone out there that doesn't believe he deserves a knighthood then compare what inspiration he has given us compared to Sir Rolf Harris and Sir Jimmy Saville I must say that I am very disappointed in the response to this petition by our membership I really expected this to go viral
