      Hi Guys,

Just been out and got the car warmer than it has been since purchase! Not sure whether to be alarmed but the oil light comes on at idle, is this common? Will be giving her a full service with oil and filter, but wondered if sender units are problematic or any other querks that may cause this?

      Any advice appreciated!

      Andy

        Hi Andy,

Mine did that but I don't think it's exclusive to Green Stags

Probably the first thing to do is to check the accuracy of that oil light - either fit a permanent gauge (that's what I've done) or perhaps plumb in a temporary one just to check.

Mine was low - down to about 4 or 5 psi at hot idle after a brisk run but I could hear a bottom end rumble . Although this isn't good, it's not a disaster. I changed to Valvoline VR1 and drove the car gently for several more months until I could get round to doing something about it. I dropped the sump - not too massive a job although more than a couple of hours ! - and was lucky that the crank seemed ok and I just changed big ends and mains and refurbished the oil pump.

Can you detect a bottom end rumble at all ?

So, if I were you, I'd do the fo.lowing:

1 fit oil gauge to check pressure
2 Change filter and oil for VR1
3 refurbish or renew oil pump - not too hard a job
        4 bottom end rebuild, possibly.

Good luck but do come back on hete to let us know how it's going.

        Cheers

        Julian

It wouldn't dare drip in that garage!

As Julian says, change to VR1 and check the real oil pressure.

              Welcome to the club.

I'd be a bit concerned now... no drips.... no pressure... = no oil
