We use one of these (see below, from Amazon) with a Garmin GPS (Use it for Geocaching as well). It's great sits on top of the dash in any of our cars and never ever moves. It's better than the suction cup mounts as they leave tell tale rings on the windscreen and on modern cars the GPS on the screen can be too far away from the driver, whereas this sits on top of dash and is much closer. We keep the friction mount under the seat or in glove box when not in use.

I have bought these to make up a mount fitted to the face of the dashboard so that it does not obscure the view through the windscreen which is not that big at the best of times.

I have a camcorder mount on my dashboard, perhaps I could use that as a mount for a removable Satnav, it has a standard camcorder size bolt fitting scew on it at present. When I go out in the Stag and want to film the route I am taking I just screw the camcorder on it, then remove the camcorder when I get home.

My son and daughter are very good at buying me only things that I need or want for my Birthdays and Xmas presents, and have already hinted at possibly getting me a Satnav - just need to know what model I should tell them I would like!.

Have had both of them, their partners, and 4 grandkids (aged 1 to 10 years) out here the last fortnight, and am exhausted from going out for a meal every night, and stopping the youngest (grandson) from pressing buttons on appliances in our apartment each day that he shouldn't (such as the oven, washing machine, and dishwasher etc.).

So nice to have a quiet night in for a change tonight, although we weren't allowed that as we had been invited round by a neighbour for a game of "Rummicub" - a great game that really makes you think - anyone on here played it.

Tommorrow it's snooker in the morning and maybe a further run in the Stag afterwards.

Terry don't take this the wrong way but, do you really need a satnav to find your way round Tenerife

When I hire a car in the U.K. they usually have a Satnav installed, and to be honest I quite fancy one.
Not so much for use in Tenerife, but sometime hope to take the Ferry and visit some of our neighbouring Islands in the Stag, and thought the Satnav would be useful for that.

Hope to see Mark of Ashro Motors next week about getting my drivers seat repaired, and Mo's Honda is due an ITV soon.
Will ask him about the discrepancy in the ITV rules when I do as to why mine and other old cars only need a Test every 5 years, whereas your older than mine car stipulates every 3 years.

As I have just said in another thread, currently recovering from having 4 of our 5 grandchildren out the last fortnight.

Just had the following reply from the Tom Tom Forum to the question I posed to them about the best model for me - thought I'd share it.

Any of the new models should do (or the previous ones). All of those can be removed. The GO 510 should do the trick, mind you the traffic and camera info would be available only via a compatible smartphone. If you want to make it more hassle free, the 5100 would be the all-in model for you. These are 5" devices with magnetic mounts. Pretty easy to remove them. If you want 6", then 610 and 6100.

But of course it also depends what other functions do you want to use on the satnav, apart from A to B routing.

I have just sold a GO 510 for £33 on the bay to buy the Go 500. I would be interested what Mark has to say. Thank's Graham

Kevin - are you talking about the "June" edition of the Mag?, as may be a week or so yet before it gets to Tenerife.

After just driving from bristol to Essex and experiencing the usual idiots on motorways including a tail gating lady of about 40 it's like everyone sees it as normal now to move you out of the way. My problem is with sat nav unless there good eye line looking down at the center consul I see fitted in the magazine is a death trap. Your looking down and losing peripheral vision. Personally I find windscreen mounted fine and it's only there for long trips. I also enjoyed the breeze from the centre air vent and putting there isa no from me.
