 On a similar note, I've been a passenger in a 3 series BMW (the early type one) and mate who was driving shoved it in to park accidentally, there was a lot of noise followed by the car skidding to a halt

 Personally, I'd be a bit careful of this. 'J' types particularly do sometimes seem to take a little while to switch back to direct drive, especially when cold.
