Steve, Rimmers had the new tanks made and they are wrong, the fixing holes do not line up and they sit too high so that the boot boards do not sit flush. You say that there is a cavity in your tank, is it possible that it is petrol sloshing around and not water? if so the repair kit that you have might be O.K.

I recently fitted a new tank that I got from Paddocks - bolts were ok but the tank is too high - the boot boards now sit on top of rather than in the brackets and rest on the pick up pipe but to be honest it is not that bad. Managed to get the other trim in but it is all a bit tight. I had problems finding a new tank as everyone was out of stock.

This post reminds me that I repaired my fuel tank that had a perforated bottom 20 years ago with fibreglass resin.

Just see it will starting leaking now!

I got the one from Rimmers Auto jumble for £75 and it looks to be in good shape although i may have to fettle the boot boards by all accounts as it's a reproduction.

                      Cheers Steve
