Compact Drain Valve (engine oil)

after all the concern about diameters it would be interesting to know the free orifice of the valve and the ring orifice for the oil flow when the valve is opened. Can you post that after receiving the drain plug?
My thread list shows 14,5 mm drill dia for 3/8 - 18 NPT (165 mm2).

Hello Klaus,
When you screw in the drainer, the valve opens. The opening is 13mm in diameter and the the height is 2 1/2mm. Such drain plugs are obviously sold in Germany as "Bochumer Stopfen", too. See here: http://www.t4-wiki.de/wiki/Bochumer_Stopfen
But I doubt whether they come with 1/8" BSP thread.

does that mean the free orifice for the flow through the drain valve is a ring of 13 x 2,5 = 32,5 mm2? If so it is only 1/5 of the orifice of the 3/8" thread (165 mm2).
I don't know wether that is a problem.

Klaus, This is correct. But I doubt whether there are particles bigger than 2 mm which cannot slip through this gap. I will remove this valve from time to time to make sure that everything is removed.

I agree Dieter, the most importand thing is to warm the oil up before draining. And with the drain plug the risk of getting hurt by the hot oil is reduced as the drain hose leads directly into a bucket.
