so been driving the stag last few days had to top up water 3 times with nearly 2 litres each time all im getting now is a hiss from the cap since I put another washer on it. not like before would be a puddle every time I switched the car off but now its not leaking just hissing a little but the water is disappearing were it gone as you know nothing is pointing towards hg even the 4 life coolant is bright red the ht supplier said if its leaking from the hole I mentioned before he will change it cant see it gushing out of anywhere really and he wants me to check the pressure of the water how can I do that.

    annoying

Hiss = pressure above what the cap can contain. Water loss = leak, if it's not coming out the cap neck or pressure release function of the cap and you have no visible external leakage then it must be being lost via combustion which is HGF or inlet manifold leaking.

Excessive steam at the tail pipes, Water being ejected when you turn the engine over with the plugs removed (one or more cylinders) or one or more Spark plugs cleaner than the rest.........

If it is a Manifold gasket, then what happens is, the coolant is lost under pressure and burnt off as steam during combustion. The coolant level drops and the pressure cap (when the engine cools) allows air to be drawn in to the system, next time the engine runs, air and low-hot coolant = steam= pressure. You get the picture.

and would it cause water overpressure

See post 48. It's not a difficult job but can require some degree of other skills sometimes. For instant helicoiling the bolt threads or refacing and fettling the manifold faces.

I thought there was a pinhole in the header tank. If so that's your problem and the tank should be returned to the supplier. There's no way that you or most of us have the equipment to test.

yes koy he saying that unless we can physically see water coming out of hole he wont get he's money back from he's suppliers as he pressure tested it im afraid will do a bit more testing as ian suggested inlet manifold if not will change the whole system again

You could rig up a pressuriser something like in my picture album to pressurise the cooling system with a tyre inflator might help to find a leak. Graham

                        Richard

why dont you go back to basics, take the header tanks off, check the cars working okay no over heating/leaking of water, then when your happy the cars okay then put the header tank back,if you still have faults then it can only be the header tank, but i dont see why you should have to put tape round it to stop it leaking, but deal with one thing at a time
