Like Jeff my mate at AK Bodycraft refuses to blend in so I know it's taboo amongst the pros because you don't get an 100% job but if someone can get a perfect match on a bright colour like Java Green I take my hat off to them. Dark blue and black is easiest to match, silver is probably the biggest pita.
Sounds like you're back peddling now

FYI - the Halfrauds Java Green is a remarkably good match

The proof is in the pudding Jeff, I've seen a couple of Java Green cars that have had just their doors sprayed and it stands out straight away.
I always say to anyone who's having their car resprayed make sure you get plenty more paint than you need from the same batch. I had some made up a few years ago by a paint supplier in Kings Lynn and they got a very good match(not good enough to do a panel I hasten to add) using a spectrophotometer anyway I ran out and called them up for more paint knowing they still had all the codes and when I received it it was still slightly different.

I'm inclined to agree with you to a point (shelf life etc.) but as I said, if you use a good paint supplier, they will get a perfect match to the paint on the car not as it left the factory, in which case it will be different every time.

I never had a problem matching paint even over riding the shops advice, but then my eyes were very good.

People forget about flip tones and different pressures and viscosity, all makes a difference to the final shade.

Jeff does that place in Caversham have the matching photospectrothingumybob?
Paul - 3 projects, 1 breaker - garage built and housing 2 white Stags. One runs, one doesn't

                  Hi mate,
i have used carrs paints in canvey island, they have loads of old BL colour charts there but i took my bootlid ( as its the smallest bit ) and left it with them, i got half of the required amount in aerosols and the rest in a tin. The match was excellent.
                  steve.

Not that I know of Paul, never had to use one as I am still on the tablets.

Many thanks for all the tips/advice.
Still a bit daunting to me with the Paint.
I dont mind the oily bits, always been a bit unsure with the painty bits.

Put her away in my garage for the winter yesterday.
Made various lists & in what order to attack them, starting to worry if winter is long enough now

                      Thanks again all,

                      Paul..
