I fitted one for initial start after rebuild..... took it off after run in
Cant agree with that, right now my oil pressure light is flickering on when ticking over but I have an oil pressure gauge that's reading 25psi. How can having an oil pressure gauge be a bad thing
Having finally got my oil pressure gauge fitted, my pressure is 15lbs at idle, and 40lbs at 60mph. She runs ok, does a pint of oil every 500 miles and doesn't leak any. Do I need to panic !? My last stag , admittedly with a V6 ford engine , did 30,000 miles at 30lbs . Any thoughts ?
Perfectly normal for the OE Holborn Eaton oil pump and nothing to worry about.

Just to add that the idle speed will make a bit of difference. Mine idles not much above 500 rpm at present and pressure is 10 psi. Add a couple of hundred revs and it rises to 15 +. I see around 50 psi at 3,000 rpm using VR-1 oil, was lower using Millers. So, a couple of basic variables to add to the debate as well as pump and other wear and tear factors. I know I have read on here that high oil pressure is not automatically a good thing and can even be bad. Like blood pressure perhaps?!

Many thanks everyone. I am still in a bit of a panic. I have an engine that doesn't burn or drop oil, runs well, and has no bottom end noise at all.
I've fitted a new smiths gauge , which when hot at around 800 revs indicates 18-20lbs , but at 2500 is only 25lbs. Is this a dodgy gauge, or a dodgy engine ? Wish Id never fitted the flamin thing !!!
Your pressure at tick over I about right. Maybe a bit low at 2500rpm but personally I wouldn't worry too much. I would keep the oil changed and just drive it. If you notice a drop in pressure ...well thats your warning that trouble is ahead.
..I have 2 Stags one with an oil pressure and one without..
Guess which one I prefer.....

Correct !
The previous owner of the Stag without an oil pressure gauge has gone 67000 miles without worrying, he said why would you put an oil pressure gauge in ? I couldnt really think of an answer . I will not be fitting an oil pressure gauge !
