Did you send off your V5 stating 'Historic'? Ian.

When I did mine I had to do it buy post as that was the only way they would do it at the time. They had just closed all the offices I sent the completed form, V5 MOT and insurance and a dating letter from The heritage people.

My situation was that although the car is M reg, registered 1/1/74 it was built 31st August 73. They give you a 7 day grace period for situations like this on the assumption it would not have been built, sold and registered in 7 days so in theory it could have been registered on the 7th Jan and I wouldn't have to provide proof of build date but I sent them all the stuff to avoid complications.

So......on the grounds of your last sentence, I have not had to supply proof build date so hopefully should be ok on renewal.

I suppose time will tell.

I filled in HISTORIC in taxation class, signed the bottom of the form, tore off the left hand page and the PO sent it off to DVLA for me. 3 weeks later a new V5C arrived with a refund for the unused tax.

If I can't renew online this year, that's what I will do, many thanks.

I suspect you will be able to renew online but maybe in the wrong class and therefore at the wrong cost. If you leave it to renewal you may have to do it at the PO rather than post it as it takes DVLA quite some time to return the V5. Hopefully this time the counter clerk will be switched on and send off your V5 too.
