Originally posted by Tdm View PostI went to one of those events when I visited Chester then Bournemouth last Summer, but on the day it was held at Highcliffe, not Bournemouth Prom. Not a lot of Classics there, the ones that did attend are pictured part way through the video I took below. You will have to fast forward to nearly to about a 1/3rd way through to get to the Classic Car part. A visit to the Motor Museum at Beaulieu features at the end of the video.

Drove the mean green machine to Portsmouth then boarded the overnight sailing to Le Havre arriving this morning to a Grey rain llaiden France. Competed with hundreds of bikers for the tarmac down to Le Mans. At this point the heavens opened and the wipers would not switch off. The only way to stop them is to turn the engine off. Problem cured itself as the rain eased. Will be applying WD40 to fuse box and anything that looks electrical.
Experienced brief period of misfire but again problem cleared itself when I was able to get up above 60 mph. Droove down at 65 / 70 mph averaging about 20 mpg. Must get the BW65 changed for that 4 speed auto and the strombergs serviced.
Door leaks above quarter light on drivers side. Another job to attend to when we get back in a weeks time Hopefully the rain will give way to sunshine during the rally around the Loire and we can have the top down.

"the rally around the Loire"
I only take the Stag to the Loire if the caravan is attached, or accompanied by friends with a large estate car. One place the car lets itself down, due to lack of wine storage capacity (and no, I never did check the caravan's weight limit)!!!Last edited by davidf; 18 May 2017, 19:42.'72 Manual O/d Saffron Yellow

Actually, most of our trips were while our children were still travelling with us, so that wasn't an option.
I think we did do that once for weekend in Normandy, but that was late in the year so we weren't likely to want the hood down, and Normandy's contribution is Calvados which we don't buy in the same volume as wines.'72 Manual O/d Saffron Yellow

Robin,
Taking the ferry tonight to Caen for a relaxing trip to southern Brittany. Never thought of taking the back seat out, not for the wine but for SWMBO suitcase! The good thing is that from later on Saturday the weather is supposed to be touching 70F for most of the week and sunny too.
Enjoy the rally.

Left a most excellent Logie de France after a good evening meal,a good night's rest and great breakfast. Then drove on to Chateaux de Gizier where we joined about 150 classics from all vintages. Lagondas, Bugatti, Alvis but the most admired was our Stag. Then we drove through fabulous French countryside to Bellay. Almost everyone with a convertible had stories of water ingress somewhere on their cars.
Management will be driving this evening as there is a dinner at another Chateaux no doubt proffering it's wine.
Hope your trip goes well Mike. Thunderstorms expected tonight and tomorrow than the weather is supposed to turn fair.
Best
Nigel

Went to Village Day yesterday locally at Great Ouseburn and 'donated' my Stag to the small but nice classic car collection. As always it generated interest ( and the usual comments about overheating, two dolomite engines welded together etc. water off a duck's back these days...). On the way back home, I spotted another Stag joining the A59 at the A1 interchange. No idea who it was but we waved and travelled in convoy until I peeled off for home and the Delft blue Stag carried on the Harrogate by-pass. Looked like a private plate (MC? 100??) and driven by a gentleman with fine whiskers! Captain Birdseye drives a Stag! Is that you?!
