I wish I could on this thread say something that I had recently done with my Stag, but since it passed it's local MOT in August, I have not been able to use it because of a brake failure the day after.

On return from a U.K. trip in August I brought back new brake shoes and cylinders as my mechanic here said they were leaking. The new parts have since all been fitted, but found out today the brakes are no better and a new Master Cylinder is now needed!.

Just been on the phone to Paddocks and they are sending one out, but it will probably take at least a week to get here. I am now suffering Stag withdrawal systems - anyone know of a cure, apart from downing a few beers until I get the car back?

Well thought l would swap the indicator and wiper switches over for the lhd ones l have had arrive from rimmer. Not so simple as you need to remove the pins from the plugs for an easy fit down the tube below the column. In dong this l noticed the wiring on the lhd indicator switch differs from the wiring on the old rhd unit. I have an extra blue wire in the terminal withe the blue+ red trace wire.
Any body been here before and know if it's a straight fit before I attempt to trace the wiring.
          Thanks in advance.

It was ok Dave but not great at 182bhp, some storms made more. Bobs made 190bhp.

Peak power is a pretty pointless measurement and most of the 'normal' inlet cars on carbs had, like mine, a power curve that was really just a straight line up to the peak power around 5K at 2.5K they were reading half the power. The difference with Stagdad's was the curve rose steeply from low revs and wasn't much difference at 2.5K right thru to 5.5K because the ignition and fuelling are accurately mapped across the range. Because we don't drive all the time in a narrow rev band at 5K that is what make Steve's car so noticeably more 'drivable'. Also my max torque was developed at 1750 rpm and it fell away after, Steve's torque curve did not drop off so abruptly.
So whilst size is important, shape is more important!
Generally the session gave much higher figures than we had in 2008 and I don't believe the cars have suddenly become more powerful so only comparisons with the other cars on the day made any sense. - Alan

Having said that Alan you were flying down the outside lane on the way back. Don't think people expect to see 2 x 45year old cars hacking down the outside lane.

One thing is apparent, fitting my custom straight through 2.25" exhaust has made absolutely no difference to the power or torque of my engine in its current configuration.

                          Interesting stuff here;

I’ve been toying with the idea of trying out the Holley again so today, having purchased the extra jet block to remove the non-changeable ones it comes with and some extra jets I decided to have a play..
Trouble is I’ve got the car running so beautifully on the stroms with uprated needles I couldn’t bring myself to faf around and change it all!

So I think i’ll be putting the Holley and all the gear that goes with it up for sale so someone else can have some fun..

The rolling road I have used will only give at power at the wheel figures, as calculating back to a flywheel figure involves many approximations which may be inaccurate as proved today. Some of the auto figures were way out IMHO.

Mike - interested in your comments about uprated needles, what are they?

                                Hi Chris,

Bought them for Tony Hart a few years back, I don’t know he does then now but ask him - they do make a difference and dead easy to fit.
If I can find the part numbers I’ll let you know, they come with different dashpot springs as well.

                                Cheers
