        Probably should have done it in the warmers weather but today finally got round to re-waxoiling all the critical areas;
        Just trying to recover now from the fumes - saves buying drugs I guess...

          Took Stag for his last ever MOT at the very classic friendly Elmsleigh Engineering, he passed with flying colours, well Emerald Green anyway.....

            I (hopefully) cured a persistent seep at the steering box return pipe using a tap washer, keeping a smaller diameter hole in the washer, and after a nice long, hood down, drive, all is still dry. Interestingly the smaller diameter hole has firmed up the previously over powered feel to the steering.

                You could be "covering" a lot of possibilities in your comments! , I can think of a number of things that are covered up at the moment (Xmas decorations for example), but I am sure you are not referring to that.

                  John.
                  Stupid is as stupid does......... another hood down long drive today, however the PS pump obviously didn't like my bodge and the assistance became less and less then packed in completely, oil was very hot and began seeping out of the pulley seal.

                  The bodge was the last attempt, now considering converting to electric PAS.

                    Well Terry as this is a Stag web site I was obviously talking about my Stag. Nothing else, honest

                      Removed my steering column in preparation for changing the bushes and bearings. A couple of days ago I removed the steering rack in preparation for replacing it as it has a hydraulic oil leak from the nearside. I will most likely rebuild my original rack.
                      Next thing to do is order the spares from SOC Spares. I see grub screw KT4502 is no longer available, I am sure I will find something similar in my tin of bits and peices!

                          Took the Stag on it's first run since I got it back from the Garage.
                          Feels a little different with the new Bridgestone tyres on - will have to check what pressures the Garage put it.
                          Ran just fine otherwise, and I even got my smartphone SatNav to work in it as I was driving along,
                          but found a better place to hold it rather than the air vent hole.
                          To cap it all I then won my snooker match.
                          Going to enjoy driving the car again the next few weeks, as spending Xmas in Tenerife before heading for Chester for New Year. Wonder what hire car Arnold Clark will give me this time?

                          Ps. Also noticed the electric fan didn't kick on the journey this time (and it is working), which would suggest my new radiator core is doing a much better cooling job than the old one, which is nice to know.

                            The second hand TV8 engine I have came without a water pump cover and the LH thread bolt in the top of the water pump had been sheared. Fortunately the pump came out using a pair of molegrips. After centre popping the sheared bolt I used a small drill to drill a hole. I then used a drill the next size up and 'Result' the sheared bolt unscrewed itself just as I had hoped it would. Instead of buying a new water pump £250 I have to buy a new bolt £4.50. I love it when a plan comes together.

                              Put the 'winter hat' hard top on, with help from brother-in-law who was staying over, and we still have all our fingers working! To be fair the soft top works just fine but I quite like the change of look and the extra light you get from the hard top window area. Just need the gritters and salting to ease off for a few days now.....
