Although the car is 1973 the engine is 1976 (from the number) It also has a BW65 auto box, are the ratios the same as the BW35?

Three jobs today. Removed hard top with help of N0 2 son, then managed to flatten the battery. The Revotec fan cuts in too early. Now adjusted. Battery checked for condition. Found a leak in the cooling system (thought it might be dreaded HG) and added new jubilee lib. Thanks to the forum suggesting one checks all jobs particularly near the heating matrix.
        Now battery on charge overnight.
Tomorrow I will be attacking the rocker covers and D cups. Then running down to the Cock & Bottle at Morden off the A31 in Dorset. Even if it is still raining.

Having got a correct speedometer, today I decided to do a few checks/prep before fitting it. Speed reading checked OK, reads 65 at 60 so I am not going to try to improve that, much better than having the saloon speedo.

Since the car has been nut and bolt restored, I thought it would be appropriate to reset the mileage to zero. After a bit of inspection I decided to remove the 5 digit indicator wheel set as I could see any other way. Took a clip off the shaft then pulled it through and it all came out, clip, spacer, spring ratchet wheels and all. After a bit of fiddling I got the zeros all aligned, and tried to fit it all back. Now if only I could find the guy who said it easy to do..........

Trip out today to Berkeley Castle (http://www.berkeley-castle.com/visit.html) to see the jousting. It rained. Quite a lot.
            The Stag wipers work well.
            As does the heater.

I just remembered that on Saturday I took the new-ish ignition module out of the distributor (one of the red ones, don't remember the make) and put the old Lumenition Optronic back in.

That instantly cured the misfire under acceleration.

I'll be buying another module to keep in the boot.

Is there extra wiring when you fit the Lumenition module?

Not really. There are three wires from the distributor sensor plug to the module, then the module has one wire to the coil and one wire to the ignition. A little more complex to install but not excessively so. The module is screwed to the side of the windscreen wiper motor mount plate so it's not too close to the heat.

Having checked the ignition timing last night and realised that the vacuum advance pipe wasn't a good fit at the carb end (it fell off) I thought i'd check the operation of the advance/retard mechanism using a vacuum pump that I bought to bleed the brakes.

Well, why have I not done it before, I don't know, but on applying a vacuum the gauge rises them quite quickly fell go zero, so its not doing its job and as I intend doing a good run (250 miles in the day) in the next few days I thought I should do something quick.

Quick search on the topic lead me to believe that buying a replacement from the usual suppliers was not a good idea and the recommendation of the Distributor Doctor seemed the right route to take. Quick email followed by a phone call this morning and a chat with Martin and vac unit removed and posted guaranteed delivery next day before one o'clock and he said he would get the replacement in the post same day for arrival following day (Thursday).

Very pleased with the service and I'm sure I will be happy with the product and hopefully it will improve the cars running.

Now, what can I fiddle with whilst i'm waiting ??

Came to work in it today as the sun is shining. Well, was when I left home. I need to keep an eye out in case of rain when I'll have to nip out and put the soft-top up!

Will be at the Wallingford parade and show on Sunday...

                      Cheers,

I have always liked that colour, especially combined with the beige.

Not a lot unfortunately as have yet again been formulating objections to planning application of neighbours. Third time - they always seem to want or disregard my privacy by a clear view of my garden and garden/sun room?

I also had a great drive out in the hot sunshine with top down of course. The TSSC had a meeting in Leatherhead, and more stags than I expected. Met quite a few people I know.
