Mine is fitted to the tonaue cover, so it's high up as that's what I also thought was the best idea? Plus I didn't have to drill holes in the body work. Mine is fitted on 2 black plastic spacers so it's seen in the rear window.

The 3rd brake light was introduced as a “high level brake light” visible through the screens of cars in front, to give following drivers more warning, as Stagdad said.
Nearly all cars have them mounted at top of rear screen, compromises have to be made with convertibles but I have never seen a car before with them mounted below the brake lights.
Please could someone explain the logic?Last edited by KOY 23; 10 September 2018, 05:48.

Surprised how easy & quick it was to remove my Strombergs this morning (about half an hour), in readiness for fixing the leak from one when the service kit arrives from Paddocks. I think when you have done something before, it is so much easier the next time, and I remembered in which order to remove things, and what didn't need to be removed.
Will need a new rubber gaitor that fits between radiator & air filter, as when took it off it partly fell apart, and may replace a couple of the carb air pipes if they are not included in the service kit.
Below is a pic showing them removed, and on examination it became pretty obvious where new seals/washers are needed. Second pic is where I am up to in fabricating a 3rd high brake light, made from parts off the wife's broken Honda high brake light. Still needs a fair bit of tidying up/work, and I think I am going to attach it to the boot rack that is a permanent fixture on my car.
