Sorry we weren't able to meet up in Bournemouth - 33 years is a long time, and I thought I had had mine for a long time at 22 years.
Age is relative - it's how you feel that matters.

Also sorry we didn't meet up - never mind. Not 33 years continuous, the first Stag was severely damaged by fire after 13 years, but I was able to recover all the mechanical parts and much of the exterior trim. Then a year's gap before I got another, which was perfect because it came cheap with a dead engine, and had been stood for 7 years, so I was able to rebuild it with all my own mechanical bits.

Drove 140 miles down to near Faversham, Met Jim at South East Trimmers, an hour and a half later left with a lovely new roof fitted - pics to follow. Very impressed with it. 140miles home and it was much quieter and watertight!

He also gave plenty of free advice re improving my seats (and also reducing deterioration).

Not a cheap morning but well worth it - I've often wondered what the rear view is like on a Stag with the hood up - previously only have had the 'bathroom window' style opaqueness!

It'll be in Car park B at Goodwood this weekend.

So that will be 600 of my 3000miles per year used up in the first week of SOC insurance!

Did a bit more work on fitting the rear parking sensors. Rear right one is now operational - fitting just wants tidying up.
After a lot of drilling finally got the necessary holes drilled in the left over rider, will fit the wiring tomorrow. Those over riders really are made of thick metal but I needed a hole big enough to push through the plug at the end of the cable that goes into the boot control unit. 4 pics below show :-

I will only be using 2 of the 4 sensors (and keep the unused ones as spares), the sensors are actually a little wider than the thickness of the rubber over rider so need an adaptor at the end.

Spent a good deal of the day trying to keep coolant in my engine and not in the vee - had a manifold gasket let go on Tuesday and just got round to doing something about it.

Pulled the manifold, cleaned it all up, dropped it back in the vee and checked the fit, trued it up with "the big file" and fitted it up with Wellseal and Payen gaskets.....it bloody leaked

Took it off, checked it all - couldn't see a problem and repeated a refit - it leaked again!

In a fit of pique, grabbed a dirty old spare manifold cleaned up the faces and chucked it on with my last stock of Payen gaskets - takes 20 psi and no leaks

Although I haven't checked, I can only assume I have a crack that opens up when tightened..

As it stands - yes - because the metal part of the overider stops it being pushed in any farther - but,
as Baldrick would say - I have a cunning plan.

Put Stag back in garage after 700 mile plus week's trip round Dumfries and Galloway, and Isle of Arran. Great trip, fabulous area, several jokes from locals and visitors about spotting a stag (yellow not red deer stag in this case!). Car was great, ran well in wide range of conditions and weather. Now needs some TLC!

Just taken her out for a 40th birthday run and to check out the new radio and additional centre-dash speaker. All good and a bit of sunshine to boot. CD works well too. It's not HiFi, but perfectly adequate for those times when a temporary alternative to gorgeous burble is appropriate.

Today also marks my second anniversary of ownership/ stewardship

When I went to festival of speed it was just a hill climb no racing as such. Have they changed it to proper racing around the circuit?

There are 2 locations at Goodwood, the drive to the house where the F o S is held and the motor racing circuit where the Revival is held. The runs up the drive are often very restrained whereas the circuit is balls out racing in multi million £ cars often driven by hired drivers, who are not too bothered about a prang.

I knew the did the circuit at the revival John but didn't know they did it at the festival of speed which is what I read from Paul's post unless he ment the hill climb as the racing?
