Collected the Stag which now has nice new CV joints by Classic Driving Development ltd and a re-furbished diff from E J Wards, if the weather is good tomorrow I shall give it a proper run and feel the difference. I already noticed the auto changes up much more smoothly and quietly. Life will be wonderful.

Got tw*atted on the front by a reversing Yodel delivery driver in a white van who couldn't hear the continuous blast of twin horns
Luckily only bent bumper irons, number plate plinth and small kink in bumper. No apparent paint or panel damage other than minor deforming of the OSF chassis rail flange where the bumper iron attaches. So far I am impressed with their insurers who were on the phone within the hour offering free repair and hire car. They are happy for me to use the same business that restored my car in 2013, so I know I'll be getting it done properly, with any re-chroming done by S&T. It will probably work out cheaper for the insurers than if it had been a modern car with painted plastic bumpers.....

My Stag has not been used for a few days, but at 8pm this evening the phone rang. Son had bought an oak sideboard locally off eBay and, despite checking the measurements, found it wouldn't fit in his Seat Ibiza. So out came the Stag, moved the lawn mower, three adult bikes, four kids bikes, two scooters and loads of other stuff to get the trailer out. Hitched it up to the Stag and out for a 20-mile round trip to pick up this sideboard and deliver it to Son's house, then home. Kids! Don't you love 'em......?I'm ready for a drink now.....
Yes Dave replacement fule tank again as they are pvc and if it leaks it will delaminates the chassis also the clutch is organic.
Sorry to see stag had a bash.
Cheers Glenn

Not good Dave, but could have had a different outcome. Is the insurance Direct Line by any chance ? I had someone take me off the motorbike a few years back. They were excellent. Admitted liability the next day in writing and just sorted it all very quickly.Wise men ignore the advice of fools, but fools ignore the advice of wise men sigpic

The insurance company is FMG (www.fmg.co.uk) and, so far, have been very reassuring.Dave

Have you thought of going for stainless bumpers ?

Cheers Edd. It is a nuisance when these things happen, but at the end of the day it is only a piece of metal. I've driven it down to Plymouth this morning where I removed the bumper so that Andy can have a proper look. The only body damage is to the end of the OS chassis bumper mounting plate and to the wing where the bumper corner fixes. The latter can be straightened without damaging the paint, so the only paintwork will be to the bumper mounting. The number plate plinth will straighten OK, which is good as it was a NOS one I picked up at Stoneleigh many years ago.
I have considered s/steel bumpers, but TBH the one I have is only slightly bent. This can be straightened then it will go off to S&T for chrome. It is a good, original bumper that I have had for over 20 years and better quality than the repro ones. Getting it re-chromed will be about the same cost as repairing and respraying a bumper from a modern car, so not so bad. That will be sent off ASAP, but unlikely to be back before January now. So I have gone for the Alpha Romeo or rally look meanwhile (see pic). I have a really good pair of original bumper irons which will be painted and fitted, as these are better than the repro ones too.

What a day! Things could not have gone any worse…
The day started off well with the final rubdown of the window A pillar and frame. Panel wiped off and tacked.
(PPE/RPE on) Colour paint mixed. Compressor on, then spppppppppppppp only the head gasket on the compressor passing.
Still had 30 psi so let's get on with it and hope it lasts long enough.
Then the big one, started to spray and WHAT! The colour is not right!! How can this be I painted the boot inner in the summer and it was fine.
Then the realisation that the inner colour is different to the outer shell. What a nightmare and to finish it off I don't know the colour. The car is 72 so saffron on the inside but I'm guessing topaz on the outer….
So it's boot lid off and down to the colour matched tomorrow…..
One good thing the small area I did spray looked the dogs b…..s shame I've got to flat it back.

bit of a 'lads day' today.
took the midget of for a spin, hood down, 7 degrees and barest sunshine, its got a great heater so nice and warm.
Got back home and waved bye bye to the missus who's gone for a girly few days away
spent a happy hour playing with my new jet washer before driving the Stag to my clubs annual Christmas dinner.
couple of hours later and a long way round back home to check on eBay.
Sold some old stuff that I didn't want for twice as much as I expected.
now enjoying some fine cheese and red wine listening to Supertramp a little louder than I really should at my age.
loverly
