Finally replaced the rough U/J on one of the Datsun drive shafts. I stripped out and dismantled the shaft yesterday. New U/J dropped through the letterbox late this morning and the car was back on 4 wheels again within the hour. On these units the circlips are internal.

Took the car on its longest run since ownership, 211 mls from home to Faversham to let a very nice man called Trevor give her the "Once over". Thought I needed an engine rebuild, amongst other things, but he said NO. Now he's a VERY VERY nice man.Other work is almost complete so may be able to pick her up after the break.

Faversham have a very good reputation. How many other specialists would've said your engine doesn't need rebuilding?

thanks to some dry weather got my Stag out from it 's cozy garage and took wife daughter and son in law out to the Harbour Heights hotel overlooking Sandbanks. Met up with my other two sons grand children etc. Daughter much impressed by Stag and told us Java green is the 2017 in colour! Tempted to take the car to church this morning but not sure we should be thinking about cars on this special day in the Christian faith.
Happy Christmas all and a blessed 2017 motoring in our Stags.

Took another photo of my vacuum motor-for Klaus see other thread.
But yesterday called at shop for something my wife needed for lunch, then had a trundle around the North Lincolnshire villages of Epworth-Owston Ferry- Graiselound and West Stockwith ,stopped at the Waterfront pub ,overlooking the marina, where my son bought me a birthday ''Shandy''and let me beat him at pool-twice ! Excellent weather for the Stag,if not cold, but a good heater kept us toasty.
Ken.

Fitted two new cables from the ign spur / join that is behind the speedo. (white to pink and slate joint)
1 resisted wire for the coil, 1 28-strand power for the aldon ignitor.
They can easily be removed to return to standard loom.
All being well they will be....as I have a special hate for any non standard wiring
Refitted the wiper wheel boxes.... having noticed the spacers were reversed.
The thick spacer goes on the passenger wiper, the thin one goes on the drivers wiper.
.....they must have been incorrectly fitted for some time!!!!
As others have found, the lash / freeplay in the mechanism is not really improved over what it was before, but the friction will have been reduced as the passenger side wheel box had gone tight/ dry.Last edited by jbuckl; 27 December 2016, 23:36.
