"Mainly today", I shall have been fettling the accelerator and choke cables. The choke cable wouldn't release fully before I started and the accelerator cable had a load of slack in it. This was after I had got it back from the engine rebuilders.
Then after lunch I switched the choke and fan switches side for side, so after 5 hours the choke is now next to the steering wheel. I had read all the other members posts on how to do it before starting off; but nowhere does it say "First train your octopus". Mine is now half trained courtesy of the Government's Apprenticeship Scheme and available to other members for a contribution to a charity.
Then went for the obligatory mini-blast up the bypass and a burble through some country villages. Still running in the new engine, so not exceeding 3k rpm in OD top gear, which seems to be about 70mph if my speedo is to believed.
Not just today, but this and last weekend ... fitted the rear seat belts ready for this Tuesday's MOT. Took the opportunity to 'keyhole' the rear seat back/squab bolt holes so now it just lifts in and out for easier access in case of tonneau cover cable failure. It also gave me the chance to see what the hood gets up to when stowed away - I really should make an effort to 'curl round' the window as I put the hood down to stop it scratching on the uprights.
I can see why some on here use that void below the hood as an extra storage area. Handy.
Went for a 70 mile jaunt over towards Buxton and then back across the Cheshire Plain via the Cat and Fiddle. Passed a blue stag near Sandbach and the followed a BRG one past Wildboarclough
New coil fitted on wednesday last week....no improvement in hot running (missing) issue ....adjusted mixture ....had to wait until Saturday to test.
All went well until a refuel & 'heat soak' coughed a bit afterwards on hard acceleration, then cleared.
Journey back home was epic....sunny & strangely completely clear roads for quite a few miles between West Malvern & Martley & beyond.
Got fed up with the Stag clonk. Decided to check out the Volt meter seeing as I had one on the dashboard. Realised I only had 10-11 volts before turning the engine over. Bought new HCB072 battery from Halfrauds (only place open on Easter Monday), based on topics on forum. Paid £10 to Halfrauds to fit it, got refund from Halfrauds for £10 when they were too frightened to remove the power steering pump. Took it home, fitted and car running in 45 minutes.
Took the green beast out to local trimmers for front seat work. Not only had I not got the right bits but horror of horrors noticed bubbling at the bottom of both doors and where rear cills join the rear wings. This was not there 4 weeks ago. Do I ditch the car or get it sorted. Bodywork is not my forte.

Having a little experiment with mine - found my vacuum advance not working, because the drilling in the RH carb is blocked and can't clear it without removal of the carb (and inertia prevents me from doing that as I am reconditioning a new set).
I don't use the thermac switch and motor due to leaks, and instead use the tapping for a vacuum gauge - so I've tee'd into that line for the advance - initial results are promising....
Lovely day ,drove high speed from Birmingham to Dudley to Leicestershire to Birmingham ,it ran like a dream, also fitted new boot boards that I undersealed and covered in double thick polythene IMG_0659.jpg
Paid the body shop who sorted some early signs of rust on door and wing.
Finished painting my spare set of wheels.
Replaced nsf door handle - ns door now opens!
Replaced front fuel filter (crudded up) with nice new glass one.
Looked at rear fuel filter and then couldn't find replacement its in the barn somewhere.
Tidied my part of barn so I can get car out more easily.
Out exercising the Stag after new wheels and rear brake work. Picked up 2 stray dogs in the Stag and took them to the local SPCA before they were killed on the busy road. One insisted on sitting with me on the driver's seat. That made me forget my Stag paranoia for a bit.
