Thats exactly as I understood it also. But my experience was that the post office counter clerks are not aware of the correct procedure. After 2 attempts I phoned DVLA who said if I had a third refusal to get the counter clerk/ postmaster to ring them. Fortunately the third counter clerk knew exactly what to do. He took V5C from me and gave a receipt. He sent it off to DVLA but issued a zero rate tax disc.

must remember to avoid the 1st and 2nd counter clerks as they are incompetent.
will also avoid the 3rd counter clerk
as he is obviously taking the pi** as they have not issued tax discs since dvla went paperless.
I am fortuanate that my car is 1972 and been classed as historic vehicle for some time now
I would be stuffed as my post office only has 1 clerk and clerk 2 and 3 are missing.

I have to go to big PO to tax car where there are 10 counters, there's a lovely girl who is usually in positions 6 or 9. Its a lottery game trying to get in the right position in the queue to have her.

I have another thread going but seeing as this thread has mentioned it, I will add here too.

Put a cherished number on my car (Wednesday), all done online, new V5C arrived today, with 'Historic' in taxation class, now that's magic! not a lot, but magic.

So when DVLA get it right, I think it's worth a mention.

Worthy of a mention because I have not had any of the problems so many on here seem to have incurred.
