Drove it to the golf club where I was hosting a St. George's Day golf tournament and BBQ, followed by a Race Night.

If weather permits, I will be driving it to St. Enodoc in Cornwall tomorrow (150-mile round trip) where I am playing a 36-hole Mixed Open competition.Dave

Put final touches to readiness for Drive it Day event tomorrow. Went to local shell station to fuel up but found road closed and petrol station also closed ! Therefore headed for next nearest station via A14 and promptly showed off Stag performance to several moderns. Got a thumbs up from one as I slowed down in sliproad!
However am becoming concerned that the engine sounds more top end rattley (if it was OHV I would say tappety) since having changed oil to VR1? (Previous Halfords classic).

Changed the drivers side cam cover gasket yesterday afternoon as it was weeping oil onto the exhaust manifold. Then used the car for local duties today. Our dog decided to go and roll in fox sh*t whilst we were walking in the fields. When we got back to where I had parked the car I was very glad I had put a couple of extra towels in the boot!

Pulled the T bar out because, when I tried to open the zip to see what was wrong with the padding, it came apart in my hand. Bought a 2m length of 5mm zip online (original was 4mm, should have stuck with that, 5 is a bit chunky). Dragged out the wife's sewing machine and spent 2 hours trying to find the zipper foot. Only took half an hour to sew the zip in. Bought a can of spray adhesive and sacrificed a nice thick yoga mat to replace the granular substance that had been the padding. Lining up the bolt holes on the door pillar required a bit of 'persuasion' with a break while I searched for the near side bolt which I heard go 'plink' as I worked on the offside. It wasn't under the car, in the car or even in the hood storage space (via the horseshoe - obvious route). No, it had dropped through the hole where the heated rear screen connector should have been! Chrome bolt was too heavy for magnetic stick so B post cover had to come off...
Vinyl now looks less like an empty crumpled paper bag, total cost about £15 + half a day. Other lesson learned - someone had been there before me as one shiny washer was missing, but why?74 manual o/d, white with shadow blue. Datsun axles, Sierra HT.

Unable to join any Drive It Day runs as the wife had accepted a invitation to a NSPCC fundraiser, nice lunch, wife won a raffle prize.
Got back in time to take the Stag for a top down 45 mile run over the moors, started to rain ,then rain harder, then HARDER, so had to stop and put the roof up, it was stuck !!!,
Finally got to up (the hood) rain stopped, ah well, at least I got out.
