    With something as critical as the water pump, I would always take the route of recon of the original if that is possible, especially as the gear was good.

    New pumps with soft gears should now be history, but if anyone finds that this old problem has recurred we all need to know about it. If the pump proves to be at fault then others need to be warned.

        Chris, when my garage gets the car and has a look, if it is the pump I will let you all know. However, surely I would not be allowed to mention the supplier if it proves to be a pump with a soft gear as this is not allowed on the forum?
