original oil filter leak

Hi all,

Yet again the large O-ring at the base of my original type oil filter has failed.
I'm pretty sure I'm doing nothing wrong and I'm torquing it to 20lb/ft (as per Haynes manual).
Is it just that the square section O-ring is poor quality, can I use a different O-ring of the same dimension, or even back-up the original with a good quality sealant?

I've been using Classic Gold filters from Paddocks.

There is a difference between the o rings supplied with the various filters - you have to be sure you have the right one in.

It turned up this morning, as promised! I wont be able to fit it till tomorrow, but at first look it appears quite a bit 'meatier' than the one that comes with the Classic Gold filter so thanks again Martin 'cos I'm going to Euston Hall on Sunday and was a bit worried about the journey.
