Have to say that 0-60 is not really my thing, I don't like dropping the clutch, bad for driveshafts etc, but once your off, anything goes. I'd be more interested in how the car works 50-90, that is where most of the overtaking is done.

The excellent Stagbytriumph website has a number of road tests that show the in gear performance of the Stag, this was the most recent (1977) by Motor magazine http://www.stagbytriumph.co.uk/magaz...977/12-02A.pdf the times shown are for the Auto.

Interesting to note that some people were fitting the TR6 spoiler back in 1977.

Its a shame they never fitted them from the factory, lots of advantages, and if they had fitted them from the factory the originality anoraks wouldn't be complaining about them!

I am surprised that people are not comparing like with like? Moderns are quoted 0- 100kph (62.14 mph). The Stag and its contemporaries are quoted in mph.

Whatever my Stag definitely kicks me up the back. Afaics the performance of the Stag is similar to all but the very latest MX5. (ok the latter with a smaller engine!)

Fastest car I ever had and indeed drove, was my Triumph Vitesse, albeit with a 3.1 V6 Ford Essex X pack engine, that would surprise even modern Merc sports coupes. Had to be a little gentle pulling away mind as the diff had a habit of exploding.

Not that I owned it, but once had the pleasure (if you can call it that) of being taken round brands hatch for 5 laps in a race spec Radical SR8 - Google it if you don't know what they are. The only warning from the young driver was 'you may faint on the fast crests, and then come to in the dips - please throw up out the left side if you do'. Terrifying ....
