I am surprised that people are not comparing like with like? Moderns are quoted 0- 100kph (62.14 mph). The Stag and its contemporaries are quoted in mph.
Whatever my Stag definitely kicks me up the back. Afaics the performance of the Stag is similar to all but the very latest MX5. (ok the latter with a smaller engine!)

Not that I owned it, but once had the pleasure (if you can call it that) of being taken round brands hatch for 5 laps in a race spec Radical SR8 - Google it if you don't know what they are. The only warning from the young driver was 'you may faint on the fast crests, and then come to in the dips - please throw up out the left side if you do'. Terrifying ....
