Martin. You said there was a feeble flow from the top hose into the radiator. If the pump gear has failed, I wouldn't expect to see any flow at all. Perhaps the impellor has worked loose on its shaft, and is only rotating slowly. I think you are going to have a look in there for peace of mind.

Based in North Kent not far from Dartford.
I do get down Sittingbourne way during the warmer months, I drive locos on the Bredgar & Wormshill Light Railway (BWLR.co.uk) on their open days, we have a classic car day in July and have seen a couple of Stags there.

It's looking more and more like the spanners have got to come out.
With the top hose removed from the thermo housing there was only a dribble lipping over the bottom lip of the housing pipe stub, like you, I would expect it to be pumped out at some rate.
