    Stag temperature gauge

My Stag rebuild is just about finished. After 4 years my ride has a Rover 3.9 EFI V8, HP24 autobox (Jaguar), and BMW rear end (LSD 3.57:1). The engine is running fine and after a few jumps and starts holding a nice temperature. But the original Stag temperature gauge is reading way past the red zone. I tested it with a gauge tester and it was reading just past normal. After a glorious drive back home from the garage the needle went off the scale after 5 mins but when I opened the bonnet after the 25 minute drive the engine was fine, the top hose warm not hot, same for bottom hose, engine warm, and nothing coming from the header tank overflow pipe. A friend who has a Ford Cosworth said he had a temp gauge misfunction similarly when he used a standard Ford Sierra temp gauge. The question is: Is it possible the Rover temp sender is not compatible with the original temp gauge or is it that the 42 year old gauge has had its chips?

    Cheers

Get the sender from LD parts assuming it fits with the same thread in the rover engine. It will sit the needle nicely on the "e" of temp unles you are actually overheating.

        Hi Ralph

Any chance of some pictures for we automotive porn addicts?

I will publish some pics of the car in due course. Waiting for a nice sunny day as the weather man predicted. In fact, I'll try to get a couple up of the car in the garage. I can confirm that the lock up feature on the HP 24 gearbox is a treat. I was ambling up the road doing 65 mph at 2000 rpm. Certainly cruises better than the old stag. Definitely will try the new sender as following the run I used an infrared temp gun and got the following measures: 1) top hose 68C 2) rad top 74C 3) water pump 68C .

Can't load the pics as they appear too big. I have published some at the Triumph Stag Club on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/groups/74748428767/
