Hi Paul, Not sure I follow you there mate. When you create the recess in an impellor for the ceramic seal, you make it such that the ceramic seal fits into this groove snugly and is a few thou proud of the original face. So in effect it replicates the original impellor face, but in ceramic. The water seals that you got with the ceramic kit are, IIRC narrower in height than the non ceramic kit. I guess it is possible that they were thinner as less pressure maybe required against a ceramic seal, rather than a badgers ass cast metallic version? The recent kit I received is certainly thicker in height than the old one that was in there. I think I'll ask Peter at LD and let you know
Ah. I think I see what you are saying, Mark. For what it's worth, I've never actually dismantled a Stag (or Dolomite) water pump, so cannot visualise what is being talked about here. But what you say makes sense. Replacing the original cast, but worn, sealing surface with something harder wearing would be a good option.
I would be interested to hear the answer. At some point, I shall need to consider what to do about a coolant pump for my own Stag! Who knows when?! I do know that my original pump 'went missing' whilst the engine was in storage with a former associate of mine. Along with the cylinder heads, distributor, alternator...

Had an answer from Peter at LD and he agrees the seals are thicker than OEM and has agreed to a refund. Rimmers have the correct thickness in stock, Paddocks are out of stock.
LD are getting new ceramic inserts made, but can only say ETA is later this year.
No mate - got an extractor that'll bring your cage out in 2 minutes undamaged - do you want to borrow it?
Hi All, I borrowed said extractor off of kryten ( Russ). He has asked me to say he is willing to help us folk, leaving the SOC doesn't mean he is not about to help. So thank you Russ for loan of tool and your offer of help when required.
