Sounds interesting this K seal, anyone anyexperience with a blown head gasket? Could be worthwhile just carrying it in case as a get you home?

I'm wary of any sealant tho, used bars leaks in Rover 214 and thermostat stopped working. Presumably Because of its location (on the cold side), bits of the resin jammed it open. Took ages to flush it all out and stick a new rad in. What other small openings are there?

I seem to have developed a couple of leaks in the cooling system. The first is a minor weep from the inlet manifold and the second appears to be from the head gaskit between cylinders 3 & 5. Both leaks start once the car has been parked in the garage for a couple of days but do not seem to be a problem when the car is running as I do not appear to be loosing any coolant and have no overheating problems at the moment!! Last summer I replaced the entire cooling system and backflushed everything. What came out was almost as clean as what I put back in. Having just been made redundant I cannot afford to pay someone to take the head off and fit new gaskits so my question is this....... is the use of Bars leaks or similar, a definate No No in the Stag engine or is it worth taking a chance to see if it stops the problem or will this block the heater matrix and small water ways in the heads?

hi steve, its strange that your not loosing water when using the car,you dont think you are topping up to much so thatafter parking up and switching off the temp rises a little and maybe forces the excess water out??

          Hi Polly,

I don't think this is the case, there appears to be no leakage while the car is hot or warm. The leakage does not start happening until a day or so after parking it in the garage. I don't think I overfill the system? I check the radiator and fill to just below the neck of the filler screw and ensure there is no more than one third full in the expansion bottle. Does that sound correct?

          Regards, Steve

            Hi steve

when filling the rad it is worth jacking up the nearside slightly and topping it right up to the top before putting on the cap.

1 3Rd in the expansion bottle is correct. If you have a slight leak via the inlet manifold it is common for it to only occur during warm up/ cool down.

The warm up is normally a lot faster, it can take the engine 24hrs to fully cool down so it mightn't leak until the following day

            Hope this helps

            Darren
