    Hi Al,

So you did not believe me then?
    Hi Steve
It is not that at all, just that the screw in the fitting did not match the hole.
    Thought some photos might help.
Did not fancy Ray's shell then, or did Roger beat you to it?

I've just check my 1971 MK1 Auto and it appears to have the same sound deadning piece above the gearbox. It runs back to the hole for the gear selector. If you need more info on it let me know as I could probably remove the one on the manual body shell quite easily.

This picture (you have to refer back up the page to see it) of the Mk1 bay shows the battery + connections are made onto a threaded stud which is always LIVE! I think it is bad practice to have an uninsulated high power terminal like this as any unsuspecting mechanic could easily short it to earth with a spanner, causing quite a flash and possibly damage/injury. I would put something over it to keep it safe.

I will never forget back in the seventies, I had a metal wristwatch strap which shorted across the battery, and nearly melted on my wrist

Try dropping a spanner onto a bare battery + terminal and you will probably get a nice hole in your rad.

I agree 110% Vmad. I too have done a similar thing, wearing a metal watchstrap and groping around behind a dashboard, the links on the wrist strap shorted against the feed to the Ammeter and they actually melted through so I had a broken strap as well as a painful burn.

My decent Stag has a rubber cover over this terminal - not sure if it is standard fitting or not. The same is true of the starter motor connection on the back of the soleniod. As you say all too easy to drop a spanner and cause a problem.

And remember folks this is from my own experience and not just another message from the Health and Safety Police - I expect they would want all live terminals painting flourescent pink and all cables protected by a 1mA fuse

                  Hi Al,

I'm currently building up a library of pictures on a new website. Its very much a work in progress. I added some showing the wiring loom last night and will add more over the weekend. The link is:

                  http://www.thejonesgroup.co.uk/stag/stag.htm

Click on the link in the top lh corner then click on the pic you want. There is already one picture - RH Footwell heater which shows the choke cables quite well. I think you can just see the throttle cable in the Brake light switch picture. I will take some more late this afternoon and post them early this evening.

                    Hi Roger,

I have just started doing something similar here: http://www.stagwiki.net/index.php?ti...ROM_Engine_Bay . I was going to get my photos up there, and post on the forum to request other peoples photos to build up a photographic library.

I will start a new topic at some point, but if anyone is interested in donating their photos, please send me a PM. (or I could add a link to existing photos on the web but I would prefer to keep them all together if poss.).

                    Regards

                    Dave

I knew this would turn up sooner or later, 350394782116 on ebay! To late for me now, doubtful if possible to retro fit after everything else is in place. Is it a Mk1/2 relevant thing? I did ask previously to a resounding silence.
