Happy New Year everyone!
I received some new chrome door handles as a Christmas pressie this year. I have set about fitting them to my car this week. I thought I would share my findings:
The passenger door card was easily removed with three screws. Removing the door handle was fairly easy, however one of the screws is difficult to access - holding the door handle up helps you locate a spanner on it. (Ratchet spanner is a blessing!). The bits and pieces swapped over nicely from the old bowl to the new one - everything was the correct diameter. Refitting was a bit more tricky as the remote locking bar needs to be correctly located in the locking mechanism. The door opening 'rod' needs to be upwards as it cannot be rotated once the handle is in place. The two two cast threaded holes were about 1mm too low, so I had to file a bit of the door to allow it to fit properly.
I then set about the drivers door. I expected the same, however the new handle did not want to clip on to the door at the top. Either the new handle had a small groove, or the door skin is wider on that side. I ended up filing the door skin slightly. I also had to use the old rubber as it is thinner than the new one. Strangely the cast holes lined up on this side. Swapping over the internal bits was nearly as straight forward, however the remote mechanism locating pin hole was too small and had to be drilled out.
I gave both doors a good amount of waxoyl while I was there.
Both handles are now fitted, shiny and work well.

				Hi All
Fitted a new door handle (chrome) tonight which I purchased from E J Ward last year.
All was going well until I came to refit the lock remote mechanism locating pin which measures 4mm the hole also measured 4mm!!
Luckily I had a 4.5mm drill so drilled the hole out and fitted the mechanism
Then the next problem the cast threaded holes for the 2 set screws were not in the same position as the original so had to get a round file and file the door skin a little until it fitted:shock:
The next problem is down to me refitted it all including the door card then found I had put the barrel on wrong as it locks but does not unlock:?
Gave up for the night now and will fix tomorrow! Looks nice though!
