Had the same problem with my carbs leaking and found that the seals had perished, so rather than change the seals i bought a pair of scrap CD-175 carbs (99p off ebay - what a bargain) these are from the SDI Rover and have a newer design float chamber cover that does not have a hole in the base.
The CD-175-2 was a half way house design after they removed the lower adjustment so as to make them tamper proof.
These Float chamber covers have the same capacity but are solid so can not leak in future, would recommend this fix to all.
