    Hi SAP,

Yes it does. It helps locate the hardtop on the body, but it could be argued that it is unnecessary so long as the other four locating handles are working correctly.

It is also good at scratching your boot lid and the stainless trim around the tonneau cover and ripping the material within the tonneau cover - if you are not very precise at getting the hard topon, and off. If yours is missing and you're happy with it that way, personally I would leave it off.

Thanks - hard tops fits ok but bit of wind noise - guess locating pin would pull it down a bit more at the back - but it locates ok with the other 4 positions and as we have already managed to drop it and scratch the car this pin maybe a bit to dangerous for us.... thanks for the advice much appreciated Steve.....

I don't think the hardtop locking pin would help pull the back down as it doesn't lock into place like the softop pin.

More likely to lift it if anything.

Er, doesn't it? Mine does :?, but I do have to push down hard to get it to click.

I've never tried to get it to lock even back in the 80's when it still had a hardtop only.

Have to try giving it an extra push next time I fit it. Hope it comes off again

I have always advised people to take it off as it can cause more harm than good. Not likely to blow away is it? If it is draughty try some new seals.

I have only fitted my hardtop once, when I collected it from the seller.I found that the locking pin went in perfectly (unlike the pin on my softtop that needs a good whack), perhaps its worth trying to adjust it?

                  Hi Pete,

CanI suggest that you remove the rear seatback before doing this? That way, if the pin does not unlock when you pull the lever, you will have access to it.

Sound advice Ray but I tookthe bolts out of the seat back years ago. I put a couple of studs in insteadto help locate it.

Helpful if there are any problems with the locking mechanism but also provides easy access to storage space in the hoodwell for those long trips.

Brilliant idea. Can we have details please?

Nothing complicated Brian, I just removed the bolts and replaced them with studs into the same captive nuts in the seat back.

It has always stayed in place ok even when braking hard.
