What similarities are there between a Dolomite Sprint gearbox and a Stag

I bought a Sprint manual gearbox with J type OD. Last Dec. I removed the OD and bought it with me to the US. This weekend while on another UK trip, with the help of a friend, we completely dismantled the box. The plan is to use the OD and output shaft and convert a non OD Stag box into an OD box. What other parts are compatible and worth keeping? Are the gears the same? The syncros look the same. The layshaft looks the same. The gearbox top cover looks similar, except for the removable plate on the Sprints one. Is the gearbox shell the same? The clutch mechanism is different. What's worth keeping to bring back on a subsequent trip.

I think I'd split this into two parts:

a) Converting a Stag non O/D to an O/D 'box
b) Swapping bits out of the Dolomite box into the Stag box where their condition is better

For b), I'd be careful about mixing used parts like gears which have been run in and worn in mesh with another gear (sort of like getting divorced after 30 years and trying to find a perfect match partner again!!)

Also, if you've got the gearbox in bits, I think the last thing I'd do is fit used bits such as synchro rings or bearings etc., out of an old 'box - even if there are rumours of aftermarket synchro rings not being so good.

If your Stag 'box is a fairly early one, be aware that there were a few changes that went on which aren't so well documented. It took me weeks to get all the right bits together to get my Stag 'box back to a known configuration after discovering a few weird configurations in it. Revington TR were very helpful and even admitted that they'd learned a few new facts about early Stag boxes too during the process!
