We had a Leaf for a couple of years and back in 2015 it generated a noise for pedestrian awareness so the concept isn't new

Although the idea of requiring more noise while at the same time as conversations about noise pollution is just bonkers. Better to spend the time and effort in educating people to stop relying on their ears alone and actually look first.

Accountability for one's own actions seems just too far fetched for pavement zombies buried in their phones and making more noise to over power their ear phones would seem to be unachievable.

My Father was a policeman. As a child, he instilled in me an awareness of traffic quite simply. Every time I stepped off the pavement without looking, he clipped me around the ear. “His reasoning was that it was less painful than being hit by a bus!”. To this day, I physically can’t step off the pavement without looking. I am 66 and he died 24 years ago!

The Stag's acceleration would be awesome but I suspect it might be a tad tail happy in the corners!
Assuming you’re not leaving a big hole under the bonnet, the complete battery pack and motor could be mounted in there, given that the TV8 is a heavy old lump in the first place the weight increase needn’t affect the handling as much as you think. If the overall battery and electric motor does exceed the weight of the TV8, radiator and lead acid battery, some careful packaging could see some of the batteries moved to the back of the car in place of the petrol tank.

If the Stag gearbox is removed as well, then the motor could be fitted in the gearbox tunnel in the middle of the car, aiding handling.

If a central electric motor is replaced by hub motors in the rear, then the Stag engine, gearbox, radiator, battery, propshaft, differential and petrol tank can be removed leaving plenty of space to distribute the batteries to ensure good weight distribution. For example some electric vehicles use hub motors (and probably some hybrids), so pinch a pair of hub motors off-the back end and mount on the Stag trailing arms.

No-one so far has talked about hybrids, a small battery charging engine and hub motors, would mean a smaller radiator and fuel tank - not as “green” as full electric, but it will give a much extended journey capability. It will be a few years yet before a fully electric Triumph will enter the Round Britain Reliability Run.

        just thinking out loud here

          Worked too didn't it!

However, last year, I was walking down the pavement in Reading and got hit by a bus from behind. The driver didn't have any awareness whatsoever that his wing mirror was hanging over the pavement. Upon remonstrating with the driver about the fact that he had just hit me while I was on the pavement, a little old lady on the bus said that it was MY fault for walking too close to the edge of the pavement.

Next time I shall walk in the middle of the road in front of the f*****s!

Also, like your father, I have always told my children to look at crossings even if the light is green for them, same driving through traffic lights or junctions. My father always told me "It doesn't matter who has right of way if you're dead, you can't argue it!" Always assume everyone else is going to make a mistake.

Chris, your hybrid idea would definitely make my wife’s suggestion of using my Yaris’ 1-litre engine in the Stag slightly less far fetched....

We have a whole generation who think that everything in life must have a musical accompaniment, whether it's walking to work, a stroll in the countryside or going for a bike ride you see people with wires stuck in their heads. This is also why there's so many complaints about loud music in TV documentaries. Let's face it one of the best things about driving the Stag is the noise it makes.

Yes indeed about musical accompaniment. I was on a conference call the other day, my office being next to the utility room and my dishwasher finished the cycle. I had to point out that it wasn't a passing ice cream van but just my dishwasher.

As to the Stag "noise", what noise? I hear no noise! (My wife dared to attempt to use the 1974 radio for nostalgia purposes, fortunately she soon tired of the single dash speaker and interference from daughters phone).

Sorry, perhaps I should have referred to it as "the Stag sound" which of course is unique.

And we'd still have the potential forum topics of HGF, overheating, starter motors, and maybe even header tanks! New topics would look at charging rates, distances covered solely by battery power, lithium battery fires, and ozone from the motors. Don't you just love technology?

Indeed, if it’s not one thing it’s another.... The good thing about any technology is that it’ll eventually fail and then we’ll have someyhing to either fix or complain about!!!

Didn't know though that EV batteries can actually explode!!!

Well known fact, just google lithium battery fires. Strict limitations on air transport. Many mobile phones and laptops recalled due to suspect batteries. Phone batteries are tiny compared with a cars. Can’t name supplier but begins with S and no not a country.

This is a Mitsubishi PHEV rear axle motor (not hub drive as previously reported), minus its differential. Remove Stag engine and gearbox and mount it in the transmission tunnel driving the Stag diff and rear wheels.

Alternatively this is a Tesla rear motor with differential (Mitsubishi one is very similar design). Remove Stag engine, gearbox, propshaft and differential and mount where the Stag diff goes.

Thanks John, seems to be an actual well-known fact as opposed to the ’well-known fact’ of the Terry Pratchett variety!

Suppose if petrol cars can have exploding petrol tanks (eg. the Ford Panther platform cars) then it stands to reason that EV’s can have exploding batteries....

I guess nothing is completely fool proof in this regard. Except for Fred Flintstone’s car, obviously!
