Not sure I bought my Stag for speed. I wanted an open top classic plus 2 with automatic and reasonable brakes that can keep up with modern traffic. It ticks all those boxes. It was a compromise as I was heading for a Triumph Vitesse. But my wife now refuses to drive a manual car - having for many years refused to drive automatics. PARIS traffic cured her on that point.
The bonus is that gorgeous burble as you drive along. Even number one son is hooked and wants the car passed on when I pop my clogs.

When I first went to work in Paris I had a M-B 230 CLK. It regularly flew down the autoroutes, though I often had to stop at a service area to ensure my average speed came down before the next toll! Today there are fixed radar, and mobile radar.
To get back on subject, my auto Stag is not fast. However, it does have quite good rolling road performance. That is from about 50 to 70 mph, it;s as good as most daily drivers.
I think a few years ago I'd have agreed - not sure whether it's old age or other drivers' behaviour, but I perceive German Autobahns nowadays to be like stepping in to a boxing ring and the Orang-Utan with the biggest balls wins, just that the Orang-Utan is behind the wheel of an AMG, an S7, an Aventador or whatever and the size of balls is measured in horsepower. I tend to find the French 130 km/h a good compromise between a relaxed drive and a reasonable time-to-destination. Being at 250 km/h and having to keep checking your rear view mirror for something coming up behind you is crazy!

The blast with the Aston a few days ago was just a little treat for the offspring!

Did you see this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQvjpG_pSJk you need a steady nerve as you leave other cars standing. And no risk of someone coming up behind! And I certainly would not to do this in a Stag. The built in safety we see on Audi M-B Jaguar and others today was not available on Stags then.

I'm too much of a scaredy cat to rely on those drivers in the right hand lane not getting a WhatsApp and drifting over whilst they read it.

The Aston also has brakes which could have a following car in the boot if applied in earnest!

Mine has made claim to mine as well, he loves it and before he was driving on the road used to enjoy driving it around the Cardrome in Rayleigh, he’s 19 now but first drove at the Cardrome at 15, used to get some interesting looks!
