Brush any paint and poo from around the crack with a small brass wire brush, if you have some give it a dab of plumbers non-acid flux, and in with the smallest pointy flame you can get right on the crack and poke in some plumbers solder immediately it starts to melt. Add enough solder so that the crack disappears and remove the heat immediately the crack has gone. Hopefully all the adjacent joints didn't get enough heat to affect them. Wash your joint off and visually check it looks ok before filling with coolant again just in case you need to give it a second go........
Just went to have a go at this...

I had done the filler bung up so tight that when undoing it, the collar the bung screws intostarting turning and came out:shock::shock::X:X

Does not look like it was welded at all, does any one know how this is supposed to be held in? Can't be a push fit surely?

Cheers Steve. I will probably take it to Feltham Rads as more likely to pass that way going into London.

Might as well have the other mods done to it whilst it's there, like fan boss and header tank boss and DRAIN tap!

Your water pump looks fab, hope it passes it's trials, I do start worrying when some of the other guys stags go bang!

I thought the original intention was that the filler stub was silver soldered to the l.h.tank due to the torque requirement.

Most reconditioners don't silver solder the joint so the soft solder gives up too easily.

HI AL,Iwas a coppersmith for some years. The best tip i can give you is make sure the area around the pipe is spotlessly clean and be careful with the torch using only the tip of the flame as this is the hottest part.apply it to the pipe as this is the thickest part and will need to warm it first. The solder should run in easily, take care and best of luck.Colin H.

Took my radiator to Feltham Radiators yesterday, and picked it up today

They repaired the two problems I had, added the modifications for a header tank and a boss for a thermal switch for a fan which I may get round to fitting one day - all for £30:dude:They checked the flow and all was ok.

He also said about electric fans not to fit them using the tie straps or fittings that go through the core as it wrecks the core eventually and cannot be repaired without recoring. He would put some brackets on the edge for me if I get to that stage.

Here is a piccy - might look familiar:
