          Just a thought Maverick, my Stag always started like yours, lumpy for the first few moments, but then ran perfectly. Having done all the other jobs I decided to stop the slght weep of coolant from the outside of the right hand head. I added Steel Seal to the coolant and to my surprise not only has the external leak stopped but so has the fluffing on startup, leading me to believe that I must have had a slight leak into 1 or 2 cylinders. As I said 'just a thought'

            A small breach into the cylinder can cause a lumpy start that then clears. Check by pressure testing the cooling system. The testing kit is available for <£50.
            Also do a compression test.
            no amount of fuel system or ignition system tweaks can fix those two issues.
