Showing my ignorance again What are"dual voice coil "speakers. I like the sound of this ,as this is a jobI've been avoiding. Where do you get them from? I had thought of fitting rear speakers forward of the cubby hole somewhere under the chrome horse shoe.

An American company called 'Retrosound' makes the dual voice coil speakers for the classic car market, they have a good web site. The basic idea is to get both stereo channels from the original speaker position in a classic car.
The unit I fitted has two voice coils in the bass unit, giving you both stereo channels from the same bass unit. It also has two tweeters mounted on the frame, one for each stereo channel. It works very well & all looks orginal, bit of a tight squeeze to get it in but it does fit.

      Hi Colin

I think this is the website:

      http://www.retrosoundusa.com/products/details/id/66

      1) If you find the time is it possible for you to please check which type you have installed and

      2) Doyou have more speakers in your Stag or are the 2 in the dashboard sufficient?

      Thanks Klaus

I fitted some component speakers in the rear cubbies, driven from an amp under the passenger seat too. With the hood up or low speed with hood down they sound great. But with the hood down at cruising speed they are not loud enough with the wind noise.

So a pair of suitable front speakersare also necessary.

          Good afternnon Klaus,

I fitted one R57N - had to make a 9mm plywood mounting bezel for it as it is a little bigger than the original speaker opening in the dash & it needs to sit a little nearer to the screen to clear the fresh air duct casing. Not difficult to do, just a bit fiddly - I have not altered the original hole in the dash, so the speaker sits 9mm below the metal dash & is offset towards the front of the car - you need to take out the glovebox completely & remove the air duct pipe to be able to sllde the speaker in. The rear sockets for the pegs on the dash grill have to be removed as well - you drill holes in the wooden bezel to accept the pegs of the dash grill as an interference fit.
This is a powerfull speaker, so if its being driven by good amplifiers it is loud enough on its own - I have chosen to fit a pair of speakers in the rear cubbies to give the system better bass response and a bit of extra seperation for the stereo effect.
If you would like any further information I am happy to oblige

              Hello Colin

thank you very much indeed for your comprehensive answer. Very helpful. I think I will go that way. All I need now is to check the Retrosound dealer list for Europe in order to find a supplier for Germany. Where did you buy - in the UK?

              Regards Klaus

Ever thought of doing head rest speakers like MX5s?

Iknow its not original but i quite like the look of doing a speaker door build something like the picture below.(I will keep the quarter light opener though)

I bought the speaker direct from the US - found them very helpful - I can look up the e-mail address & name of the guy I dealt with tomorrow & I'll post it. I have fitted their radio as well which I bought from Moss Europe, but for some reason Moss don't do the speakers.
