If I had my time again (hindsight being a wonderful thing) I might well go for a Rover engined, modified Stag, the prospect of 200+ bhp is interesting and would give it modern day performance in line with it's looks. I would never throw out the original engine unless it was no good which mine certainly isn't, but I don't see anything wrong with 'upgrading' to make the car more useable today. Let's face it, besides the sound, the performance of the original isn't that great any more, my tdi passat is every bit as quick as the Stag and that does 50 mpg!
