I have put Halfords 072 in both my Stags. Both worked very well, no complaints. Stag battery clamp also fits these batteries well, putting aside the fact it is a pain the a** to fit.
I was bewildered by the variations in batteries available and the closeness of the terminal clamps to the clamp that holds it down. The car had the wrong battery fitted when I bought it and the clamp was helpfully left in the boot!
In the circumstances I bought one from Rimmers listed as suitable and it fits fine. Moving the steering pump out of the way was the easy part - finding the holes where the securing clamp goes and keeping them there whilst fastening down the wing nuts was a real pain. In the end it took two of us and removing the grille to find the holes to get it done. I also slipped some bicycle inner tube over the clamp bar to be on the safe side
I've just bought the E24 Varta from Tayna, got the battery in fine but the long rod of the clamp is now too short, has anyone else had this and what did they do about it? I'll go to the factors tomorrow to try and get a longer clamp rod, any ideas of a car which might fit? Tia.

The battery went straight in, it's the clamp that's the problem. I've just spotted a halfrauds universal clamp for £5.99 which might fit with a bit of fettling.
I even got a new clamp from Robsport, which has the same dimemsions as the original, neither fit.
Likewise with the same battery, it's difficult to suggest where the problem may lie without looking at the car but I had no problem with the original clamp.
I used parts from Halfords generic clamp mixed with the proper Stag kit to make a combination that worked. My Stag had no battery clamp whatsoever when I bought it.
Find an agricultural engineer and fit the largest one that will slot in. Half the price. Have had a Hankook MF56219 for the past 6 yrs.Paid £55.00 for it. Cash obviously
