Hi everyone, now reassembling rear drive shafts the back plate, is there a certain position that it attaches to the shaft or can you bolt it on anywhere. Many thanks Steve.

Riveted pivot for shoes is uppermost.

      Wheel cylinder lowest.

Have seen them fitted upside down…. Can’t find the picture sorry.

Hi, l mean the round plate that the brake pads attach to. Can it be bolted up in any position on the shaft. Many thanks Steve.

Do you mean that you're concerned that your back plate has previously been fitted incorrectly and want to know if its ok to leave it, or are you wanting to fit it differently to what jbuckl and MandM describe for some reason and are asking if this ok? You could have problems with any insurance claim if you knowingly deviate from the original design of the braking system.

I think he means once the brake back plate is correctly located on the studs, does it matter how the drive shaft and bearing carrier is fitted. I do not believe it matters

Definitely lost on this one if it's not the backplate where the wheel cylinder & Co are attached to as in the photos. Perhaps a picture which tells a thousand words?

Drew, I think your illustration is upside down, wheel cylinder & h/brake lever go at the bottom don't they ?.
I have had disc brakes for years, but seem to remember the cable being under the suspension arms with standard drums.

Could be, it's out of the Triumph parts book but, to be honest, I only posted it to try and find out what the plate is which we're talking about, since the first pics clarified the matter unambiguously, but the OP said he was referring to something different. I wonder if the orientation changed over the years?

Only if the first one is turned upside down…. Neil spotted the parts book is seemingly incorrect.

Yeah. Weird. Both the "Graphic Catalogue" and the 1974 Parts Book show it wrong, but all the ROM's show it correctly.
