If you've wired the switches incorrectly, why don't you just break into the wiring loom and switch the wires over?

You still have to swap the wire from the solenoid to the correct switch, may as well swap them properly. On my MGB I used a surgical clamp on the connector and a boroscope to get the OD wire connectors installed. Took a while, the first 5 mins was learning which way to move but got there in the end.
