    coolant loss

    Hello all,
Last week on the way home my warning buzzer on the header tank went beserk with a constant, nerving sound. When I looked into the engine bay I saw coolant splashing out near the rhs head - quite like 15 years ago when I tried to drive the Stag from Nottingham to Germany and both head gaskets blew.
Great relief today! It wasn't the cylinder head gaskets after all. A radiator hose was leaking so badly that you would have thought the water was gushing out of the head gasket. This could today be repaired with little effort and using my own resources. Thank goodness! Now the subject of "selling" is off the table and driving pleasure is back on the agenda.
    Best regards, Dieter.

What better recommendation could there be for having a header tank !

With a warning buzzer in the header tank you can be sure not to lose coolant without realizing this. The latter happened to me when the bottom rubber pipe at the radiator once burst ....

I must admit that while I do have a header tank (E J Ward one) it doesn't have a low level sensor, I'll get one fitted one day but I check it regularly out of habit.

It was my Volvo HT, c/w LL sensor rigged to a buzzer, that alerted me to the coolant loss early in 2022. It was leaking out of the LH cylinder head/block joint. Stopped at a nearby supermarket and bought a couple of litres of still water to top the system up enough to get home.

Installing such a buzzer is easy. Just drill a hole as low as possible and screw in the buzzer - making sure the sealing works ....
