Gearbox mounts - caused vibration

Just posted this in the 'crap parts' section, but in case you don't read that bit, I've discovered that a crazy vibration through the car that I've been chasing for months finally resolved itself when I put back my old gearbox mounts (only a couple of years old) instead of the brand new ones (from James Paddock) - maybe they were harder rubber or something? But yeah, was a nasty shake all the way through the car!!

Are the new ones poly?

I had issues a decade or so ago with new cotton reel mounts falling apart after a few hundred miles. Even worse was the top hat and giant washers that hold the crossmember in place also dissolved! Now I had installed washers under the nut but it didn't take long for those washers to fail also. Luckily, I guess I found out because the gearstick suddenly shifted and I could no longer select 2nd or 4th. The gearbox was now hanging off the prop and exhaust mounts.. eek

I would recommend +1 on poly cross member mounts, bushes and the biggest penny washers you can find as a fail safe.

The cotton reel mounts, 10 years ago I did the same as you and popped the old ones back on, they are still there

I've heard about these mounts. I have a few original used ones I keep. both my Stags are using old good mounts.
